The three most common types of pumps are:
Ejector pumps: typically installed in lower-level or below-ground bathrooms and laundry rooms, ejector pumps are used to handle the waste water from your basement, including sewage from any basement bathroom. While a sump pump has a simple drain pipe to expel the water to the outside, an ejector pump is connected directly to your sewer or septic line and also has a vent pipe to manage the removal of sewer gases.
Sump pumps: most commonly used in basements and below-ground crawl spaces, especially in regions prone flooding, this pump used to remove water that has accumulated in a water-collecting sump basin, typically found in the basements of homes. Sump pumps are used where basement flooding happens regularly and to solve dampness where the water table is above the foundation of a home.
Water pumps: used in homes that get their water from a private well, these pumps pump water up from the ground.

Some existing pumps may discharge to the sanitary sewer in older installations. Once considered acceptable years ago, this practice may now violate the plumbing code or municipal bylaws because it can overwhelm the municipal sewage treatment system. Municipalities urge homeowners to disconnect and reroute sump pump discharge away from municipal sewage treatment systems. Super Rooter Plumbing and Sewer can help inspect and resolve any potential plumbing code or municipal bylaw violations your home or business might have.
